FACETASM Designer Hirori Ochiai Interview (1/3)

Interview with FACETASM Designer Hirori Ochiai

Hirori Ochiai, a designer of Japan's leading brand, FACETASM, oversees FamilyMart's original conveniencewear, which started in 2021. I don't think Ochiai and Osaka are very tied together, but in fact, they have been familiar with Osaka for more than 20 years. On the day before the release of the FACETASM capsule collection, we asked Mr. EYgyttasism from BOREDOMS and Mr. Ochiai, who visited the Shinsaibashi PARCO store about Facettasism and other creations and Osaka.

—FACETASM in the 2023S/S season has a theme of "Leave Now", what kind of ideas did you come from?

Ochiai: I went to Yanbaru Forest (Okinawa Prefecture) to take a look at the 2022A/W collection last January. Enter the forest and spend two days with no radio waves. Of course, it is also cut off from SNS, but what I felt there was that the information obtained from the forest was very fresh in the last few years when I had forgotten inputs.

—Do you mean that you have become "no" without information?

Ochiai: It's not a nuance that there's nothing because it's a forest, or a refreshing heart, but something like a willingness to create something completely different from making things in the city. What I felt and moved my heart. I felt that it was very important now to put such a story purely into clothes. At that time, I had the artist collage the photos of the forest taken by myself and made the fabric printed on it.

—This time, you're collaborating with EYdouga of the world-famous band "BOREDOMS".

Ochiai: When I was in my twenties, I went to a party at Namba's club and chased EYgy-san, but it seemed to be coming from somewhere in the ears of EYive-san (laughs). When I was invited to a guest by EYdouga's distribution at DOMMUNE (ShibuyaPARCO), I greeted him properly. In 2021 at Shinsaibashi PARCO and held at Shibuya PARCO in February of the same year, I made a collaborative T-shirt for the first time. This is the second collaboration for FACETASM, but I am very happy. I'm a fan of old days.
