Interview with FACETASM Designer Hirori Ochiai (1/3)

Hirori Ochiai is a designer of Japan's leading brand "FACETASM" and oversees FamilyMart's original "Convenience Wear" that started in 2021. Ochiai and Osaka don't feel very connected, but in fact, they have been familiar with Osaka for more than 20 years. On the day before the release of the FACETASM capsule collection, we talked to Ochiai, who visited the Shinsaibashi PARCO store, about fasettaism and other creations, as well as Osaka.

—FACETASM in the 2023S/S season has the theme of “Leave Now”. What kind of idea did you come from?
Ochiai: In January of last year, I went to Yanbaru Forest (Okinawa Prefecture) for a look of the 2022A/W collection. Go into the forest and spend two days in the absence of radio waves at all. Of course, it was cut off from SNS, but what I felt was that the information obtained from the forest was very fresh in the past few years, when I had forgotten inputs.
—Does it mean that you have “nothing” information?
Ochiai: It is not the nuance that there is nothing because it is a forest, or that the heart is refreshed, but the desire to create something completely different from making things in the city is springing up. What I felt, what moved my heart. I felt that it was very important to put such a story into clothes purely. At that time, I asked the artist to collage the photos of the forest that I took on my own, and made a fabric printed on it.
—This time, you're collaborating with EY Account of the world-famous band "BOREDOMS".
Ochiai: When I was in my twenties, I went to a party at a club in Namba to pursue EY Accountant, but it seems that it came from somewhere in my ears (laughs). When I was invited by a guest at DOMMUNE (ShibutaniPARCO), I greeted him properly. The first collaboration T-shirt was made at Shinsaibashi PARCO in 2021 and at Shibutani PARCO in February of the same year. This will be the second collaboration for FACETASM, but I am very happy. I'm an old fan.
