Tomomi Awaji | 『PARCO CHAOS JAM』INTERVIEW (2/2)
Shinsaibashi PARCO 3rd anniversary event “PARCO CHAOS JAM”. Tomomi Awaji drew the visual illustration. She is an up-and-coming illustrator living in Osaka known for her "moving illustrations." The style is pop of momentum and powerlessness. The moving figure has a taste. Maybe it's a new era? If you listen, it seems that the kikkake that started drawing moving pictures was a friend's wedding.

ー “PARCO CHAOS JAM” depicts a dolphin character as an official navigator. His name is "Purusaburo."
Awaji: It's the third anniversary, so it's "Purusaburo" (laughs). If a lot of goods are sold this time, "Purushirou" and "Purugorou" may be born (laughs).
ー What are your impressions of the design of the PARCO CHAOS JAM website? How about?
Awaji: I was born in 1988, and I am happy because I know such an era (in the early Internet), and I like that world view. The designer makes use of his own picture with a good feeling. Thank you very much.
- Speaking of which, in the past, there were some works that were standing galls and the motif of the bubble era of the Showa era.
Awaji: Isn't it something flashy, at that time? I think the era before becoming a natural orientation is interesting. Even when I was in elementary school, it was synorah, Misanga, and spring (rainbow spring) going down the stairs became popular. I like colorful things, and I think it's always soaked.
ー Where are the ideas for the taste of drawing?
Awaji: You like old magazines and buy them. There are many men's magazines such as Popeye. The pictures and catch phrases of advertisements in old magazines are interesting. I also like Mr. Teruhiko Yumura. I feel lucky if Yumura's picture was on the magazine I bought. Originally, I didn't know anything about Dick Bruna, but I was told about Yumura at Dr. Terada.
-As expected, Mr. Terada. This time, along with PARCO CHAOS JAM, you are also participating in the PARCO Wall Gallery, an exhibition that will be held from November 17th.
Awaji: This is the first time it will be exhibited in a commercial facility, so what will it look like? I can't imagine it yet. What I will exhibit this time is a vertical picture of 50 x 70 cm, but it has a hand-drawn two-dimensional code, and when I read it, the picture will move.
- You can see not only moving pictures, but also moving pictures. Do you think the combination technique is Mr. Awaji? That's right.
Awaji: I would be happy if you could enjoy it in a situation that suits the place, whether in real or online. I want to reward those who are curious to read the two-dimensional code.
What's your reward?
Awaji: I think that if you get interested and have a picture that moves where you read it voluntarily, you will be happier. In addition, I like the two-dimensional code itself.
- Are two-dimensional codes like an unknown door?
Awaji: That's right. Like a magician. Is the two-dimensional code analog? Is it digital? I like feeling that I don't understand, right?
ー Finally. What kind of activities are you planning on now? What is your ambition?
Awaji: Oh, what's it? Attach a wrenchular (sheet where the picture can be moved depending on the viewing angle) to a bus or train or something that is moving in the first place, and the picture is moving! I'd like to try it like that. I would like to show it using moving things in the city. It's still a dream story.
Do you think it will come right away?
Awaji: No, if it is a public vehicle, I think it is necessary for the people of the city hall to think that it is interesting, so it is still much more. I have to sell more [laughs].
