TAPPEI | 『TAPPEI 3rd Solo Exhibition “BRAIN”』INTERVIEW （3/3）

ー Isn't this "BRAIN" exhibition tour at Shibuya PARCO's GALLERY X in June last year?

TAPPEI： All the works are produced for this exhibition. The work of the stuffed angels is linked (with the exhibition at Shibuya PARCO), but change the way it shows.

The title is ‘Brain’. What is “brain”?

TAPPEI： I just thought of it somehow (laughs). It doesn't have a deep meaning, right? I'm not good at using words…。 If you think that you will continue to exhibit in the future, you will not be able to organize it simply (if you have to give a title). Also, when I was young, I was taken to the Wonder of the Human Body Exhibition, and there was an exhibition that touched the real human brain through gloves. It is also because the memory of the city is large.

ーHow is the exhibition? Will everything be framed?

TAPPEI： You were framed for the first solo exhibition and the second time. But I feel like doing it in Osaka, where I made the base of my life, is a bit too much (laughs). I want to make it look rough.

ーThis exhibition is quite voluminous, including small works.

TAPPEI： Originally, it was planned to be 40 points, but if you include small works, it's about 80 points. Unlike the feeling of the museum's exhibition, it can be chilled, so I would like you to come and see it casually.

ー Finally, what is the real pleasure of the solo exhibition for TAPPEI?

TAPPEI： At the time of the solo exhibition, there are quite a few people who come to show me the tattoo I carved. I was wearing a mask during the corona, so many people who carved it at that time can't remember it. But when you see the carved tattoo, you remember? That's all about each tattoo. It's a bad way to say, but that person himself is one of my works. Do you think there will be more works at the venue? That feeling may be a tattoo artist.

It’s as if my child came home?

TAPPEI： It looks like a child who can't contact has returned (laughs). Even in Osaka, I will be in the gallery as much as possible, so I would be very happy if you came to show me. I'm showing my work at the exhibition, but on the contrary, I'd like you to come to show me a tattoo.

From January 5 (Fri) to January 14 (Sun), 2024, the TAPPEI 3rd Solo Exhibition "BRAIN" was held at SkiiMa Gallery on the 4th floor of Shinsaibashi PARCO.​

During the period, we will exhibit and sell more than 40 new works produced for this solo exhibition and sell goods limited to this solo exhibition.​

This is the first solo exhibition in Osaka, where TAPPEI is also from. Please enjoy the space unique to TAPPEI, which is ironic and humorous.​
