Ayaka Wada| QUI x Shinsaibashi PARCO Art Mikata (1/5)

Ayaka Wada| QUI x Shinsaibashi PARCO Art Mikata

There is no right way to appreciate art. But there are some tips to enjoy art more. Koho Suenaga, the author of "Art Thinking from the Age of 13" (Daiyamondosha), an art teacher who advocates "output appreciation" that explores new perspectives while freely expressing what you feel, is a series of art exhibitions with guests.
The fourth guest is singer and actress Ayaka Wada. We asked Mr. Wada, who majored in art history at university and studied art at graduate school, about the Kansai Art Annual 2025 CO (~ June 22) being held at Shinsaibashi PARCO.

We visited "Kansai Art Annual 2025 CO" in which seven young artists related to Kansai participate in this event at Shinsaibashi PARCO. Kansai is dotted with many galleries with unique and experimental spirit, providing artists with a variety of expressions. In this exhibition, works by artists selected from each perspective are exhibited in collaboration with the attention galleries around Shinsaibashi PARCO, so that you can feel the rich connection between local communities and creativity.

First of all, the two people chose "favorite works" and "works that were interested" while going around the venue.

- Works by Ayaka Miyata who "I liked" Wada

Wada: At first glance, I saw this work and thought, "I like it!" It was impressive that it was expressed with threads and embroidery, and I felt strange that the thread was stretched sideways and the image was blurred.

  • Profile _ Ayaka Miyata
  • Born in Kyoto in 1985. Graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design in 2012. After majoring in dyeing and weaving at university, he started making using his own methods using hand embroidery and sewing machine embroidery to give depth and volume to the dyed cloth. He has created a unique method based on "Errors: New Values are born due to the act of failure", such as the "WARP" series of threads that appear by intentionally causing bug in the sewing machine, and the "Knots" series, which eliminates the fabric of support and builds only with thread.

ーWada and Suenaga were "worried" by Kei Okamoto

Wada: I was worried because I like a good combination of colors. Moreover, the color of this work may not be the one chosen by the artist himself, but the coincidence created in machines and photographs. It's interesting to feel that you like that color.

Suenaga: I was also interested in this work because it was interesting. I love works that I don't know what is being drawn.
For example, in this work, I first imagined the image of the sea from color, but it looks like the starry sky of the sea and Aurora, on the contrary, I think that it looks like a deep sea, and what I see changes depending on the time I see it. I wanted to talk about the image with other people.

  • Profile _ Kei Okamoto (Okamoto)
  • Born in Osaka in 1981. Graduated from Osaka University of Arts in 2004. We will continue to produce paintings like optical experiments by making full use of our unique technique <photo brush = photo brush>. Using photographs as an expression medium, without using a camera, using the properties of the photographic materials <film> and <print paper>, `` color '' in a completely dark room. Draw as a form and "record". Replace the process of photo development with "drawing" and present the new charm of photographic materials and the possibility of painting expression.
