Tomomi Awaji | 『PARCO CHAOS JAM』INTERVIEW (2/2)

Tomomi Awaji | 『PARCO CHAOS JAM』INTERVIEW

Shinsaibashi PARCO 3rd anniversary event "PARCO CHAOS JAM". Tomomi Awaji drew the illustration of the visual. She is an up-and-coming illustrator living in Osaka, known for her "moving illustrations." The style is pop with momentum and weakness. The moving figure has a mysterious taste. Maybe it's a new era of squirrel? I heard that the key to starting drawing moving pictures was a friend's wedding.

ー In PARCO CHAOS JAM, dolphins characters are depicted as official navigators. The name is "Parsaburo."

Awaji: It's the third anniversary, so "Purusaburo" (laughs). If you sell a lot of goods this time, you might have "Purushiro" and "Purugoro" (laughs).

ーーWhat are your impressions of the design of the PARCO CHAOS JAM website? How about?

Awaji: I was born in 1988 and know that era (in the early Internet), so I miss it and I'm happy because I like that world view. It feels good and the designer makes use of his own picture. Thank you very much.

Speaking of which, in the past, there were works that were standing galls and the motif of the bubble era of Showa.

Awaji: It's something flashy, that time. I think the era before becoming a natural orientation is interesting. When I was in elementary school, I was a shinoler, a misanga, and a spring that descends the stairs (rainbow spring) became popular. I like colorful things, and I think it's always soaking.

What kind of place do you want to do?

Awaji: You like old magazines and buy them. There are many men's magazines such as "POPEYE". The pictures and catch phrases of old magazines are interesting. I also like Teruhiko Yumura. If Yumura's picture appears in the magazine I bought, I feel lucky. Originally, I didn't know anything because I liked Dick Bruna, but Mr. Terada told me about Mr. Yumura.

Oh, Mr. Terada. This time, along with "PARCO CHAOS JAM", you also participated in the exhibition "PARCO Wall Gallery", which will be held from November 17th.

Awaji: This is the first time that it will be exhibited at a commercial facility, so what will it look like? I can't imagine it yet. This time, I will exhibit a 50 x 70cm vertical picture, but it has a hand-drawn two-dimensional code, and when I read it, the picture will move.

ーYou can see not only moving pictures, but also moving pictures. Is the matching technique Mr. Awaji? Oh, yes.

Awaji: I would be happy if you could enjoy it in a situation that suits the place, whether in real or online. I want to give a reward to those who have the curiosity to read the two-dimensional code.

What a reward?

Awaji: If you get interested and have a moving picture where you read it spontaneously, I think it will be more happy. I also like the two-dimensional code itself.

-The two-dimensional code is like an unknown door?

Awaji: That's right. It looks like a magic circle. Is 2D code analog? Is it digital? I like the feeling that I don't understand.

Well, at the end. What kind of activities are you looking for in the future? What's your ambition?

Awaji: Oh, what is it? The picture is moving by attaching a renchular (a sheet where the picture can move depending on the viewing angle) to things that move in the first place, such as buses and trains! I'd like to make it like that. I would like to show it using moving things in the city. It's still a dream story.

Do you think it will come true soon?

Awaji: No, if it's a public vehicle, I think you'll have to think it's interesting for the people of the city hall, so it's still far more. I have to sell more (laughs).
